Aspects of Health: What Has Changed?

When I studied wellness in school (in the 1980s/90s), these were the aspects of health:

Spritual + Social + Physical + Mental + Emotional

Now, we’ve expanded them to include a few more:

Spiritual + Social + Physical + Mental+ Emotional + Intellectual + Environmental + Occupational

I’ll simplify:

Aspects of Health

Your mental and emotional health affects all other aspects of your health and vice versa.

How you feel at your job/how you feel about your career (occupational), affects your mental/emotional health and vice versa.

How you feel about your environment’s effect on you and your effect on the environment (environmental), affects your mental/emotional health and vice versa.

How you feel about your body and how you interact with it, e.g., exercise (physical), affect your mental/emotional health and vice versa.

How you feel about your friend circle (social) affects your mental/emotional health and vice versa.

How you feel about your spiritual/religious practice or lack thereof affects your mental/emotional health and vice versa.

What does all this mean to you?

If you care about your health, you have to understand the inextricable link between what you think and how you feel (mental/emotional health) and every single other aspect of your health. We used to think of health as our physical health…diet and exercise.

Now, we know more. Now, you know more.
